Ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the US, which destroyed the World Trade Center and killed thousands of people, national security in airports all over the world has been significantly reinforced and tightened. This is because airports are usually the common targets for terrorism attacks and crimes as there is often a large influx of people going through these places daily. Airport administrators have created new and stricter national security measures which are implemented by all of their security personnel. Many airports have also invested millions of dollars in state-of-the-art security equipment. Even some German language schools such as language school (www.alemania.ch) Switzerland also enforce strict security measures for the safety of their students take up German courses.

National security is generally concerned in making sure that the legal codes of the state are not violated. It also covers the prevention of terrorist attacks on public infrastructures along with their personnel which is done through implementing civil defense as well as emergency preparedness measures: this would include anti-terrorism legislation. National security also ensures the resilience and the redundancy of critical infrastructure. It also encompasses the use of counterintelligence services and secret services in order to protect the nation from any internal threats which are backed by external forces. It is classified into two divisions: external national security and internal national security.

With internal national security, the executive authority would be the expression of political power, which is preferably done through a democratic process of the selection of national leaders. Another definition for internal national security would be that it is the management of national finances which are free from any economic problems that could possibly lead to a large scale dissatisfaction with the government by the public done through protesting.

On the other hand, external national security is associated with the national security in democratic states. External national security also covers: the use of national border security as a method for immigration control; the assurance of international trade safety across the state borders; and the use of national environment security wherein the environmental threat comes from the sources which are external to national territory and territorial waters and airspace.

National security measures are presently strictly enforced in a majority of airports and even in some schools such as language school Switzerland all over the globe. The branch of national security enforced in airports is called airport security and it usually refers to all of the methods or techniques that are implemented for the protection of the airport, passengers and of the aircraft that lands there.

Airport security is particularly important so that the safety of air travel and of the passengers can be assured at all times. National security personnel in airports usually undergo several training courses so that they can be prepared in the event of any terrorist attack or another undesirable situation. They are also sometimes required to take a couple of language courses (Sprachkurse) from safety language school Switzerland. They also take up some courses like German courses and other foreign language so that they would be able to communicate better with passengers and other airport personnel.
